Building

Build › Build (CtrlShiftB) builds the run configuration selected in the toolbar: only its project, when its kind knows how, such as a .NET project with dotnet build of that project. Otherwise, and when no configuration is selected, it builds the open folder with a build provider that knows how. Runesmith ships with providers for .NET, which runs dotnet build, and for Maven and Gradle; plugins can add others.

Build

  1. Open a folder that has a solution or project file at its top, such as App.slnx, and pick a run configuration in the toolbar.
  2. Press CtrlShiftB, or click the hammer of the run widget in the toolbar.
  3. Follow the build in the Output panel's Build channel. Errors and warnings appear in the Problems panel as the compiler reports them.

Runesmith saves every changed file first. While the build runs, the task indicator in the middle of the status bar shows Building; click it and then its cancel button, or press CtrlBreak, to cancel it. When the build ends, a notification says whether it succeeded, with the number of errors and warnings; the bell at the right of the status bar keeps it.

Build is turned off while a build runs, or when no configuration is selected and no provider can build the folder.

Running a configuration builds it first with its Build step, and writes the build log in its tab of the Run panel instead of the Output panel; see Running.

What the .NET provider builds

The .NET provider builds the first .slnx file at the top of the folder, or else the first .sln, .csproj or .fsproj file, with dotnet build. It needs the .NET SDK: the default one from SDKs when Runesmith installed it, and otherwise dotnet on the PATH.
