First steps

Runesmith works on a folder: open one, and the Explorer shows its files, Quick Open finds them by name and Find in Files searches them. You can also open single files without a folder.

Open a folder

  1. Choose File › Open Folder... (CtrlShiftO), or Open on the welcome screen.
  2. Pick the folder, such as the one that holds your solution.
  3. Double-click a file in the Explorer, or press CtrlP and type part of its name.

The folder's name shows at the top of the Explorer and in the project widget at the left of the toolbar, whose menu also opens recent folders. File › Close Folder closes the folder and its files.

The welcome screen

While no folder and no file is open, the welcome screen fills the window under the toolbar. Its left column switches between:

SectionWhat is there
ProjectsThe last 10 folders you opened, with when you opened each and a search box. Click one to open it again. New Project and Open start something new.
CustomizeThe color theme, the accent color, the syntax colors, the file icons, the font sizes of the interface and the editor, and the keymap.
PluginsOpens the Plugins page of the settings.

Help › Welcome brings the welcome screen back; the X at its top right returns to the folder.

The Explorer

The Explorer panel lists the folder's files and folders, folders first. It leaves out what the files.exclude setting excludes, such as bin, obj and .git, and follows changes on disk as they happen.

ToDo
Open a fileDouble-click it, or select it and press Enter.
RenameSelect it and press F2, or right-click and choose Rename.
DeleteSelect it and press Delete, or right-click and choose Delete. Runesmith asks first.
Create a file or folderThe buttons beside the folder's name, which show while the pointer is over the Explorer, or New File and New Folder on the right-click menu.
Copy a pathCopy Path or Copy Relative Path on the right-click menu.
Show it in the system's file managerReveal in File Manager (Reveal in Finder on macOS) on the right-click menu.

The buttons beside the folder's name also refresh the tree and collapse every folder. When you switch editors, the Explorer selects the file of the active editor.

The session

When Runesmith closes, it remembers for each folder which files were open, where the caret was in each and which one was active. Opening the folder again opens them again. When Runesmith starts without a folder or file on the command line, it opens the last folder.

The window's size and place, and where the tool windows are and which ones show, are remembered too. Turn the setting Restore the session (window.restoreSession) off to start with nothing open.
