Navigation

One search box at the top of the window finds files, commands and lines. What it searches depends on how the query starts. Go to Definition and the back and forward buttons move between places in your code.

The command palette

CtrlK opens the command palette; CtrlShiftP and F1 do the same, and so does Commands in the app bar. Type part of a command's name, use ↑ and ↓ to pick one and press Enter to run it. Each row shows the command's category and its key, so the palette also teaches you the keys. Commands that cannot run right now, such as Save without an open file, show faded.

What the box searches depends on the first character:

QuerySearches
No prefixThe files of the open folder, by name.
>Commands.
:Lines of the active editor, such as :42 or :42:7.

The palette opens with > already typed; delete it to search files instead. Escape closes it.

Quick Open

CtrlP opens the box without a prefix, to open a file by name. The letters you type match in order, and the best matches come first: matches in the file name before matches in its folder, and runs of letters and the starts of words before scattered letters. A query with a / matches the whole path, such as src/program. With an empty query, the files you opened recently come first.

Go to a line

CtrlG opens the box with :. Type a line, or a line and a column separated by :, and press Enter.

Go to Definition

F12, or Ctrl+click, goes to where the symbol at the caret is defined. When there are several definitions, a list lets you pick one. Definitions come from the language's server; without one, a notification says that no definition was found.

Back and forward

Runesmith remembers where the caret was before each jump: Go to Definition, Quick Open, a search result or a problem. Go › Back (Alt←) returns there, and Go › Forward (Alt→) goes ahead again. The arrows in the app bar do the same.
